Piano Lessons
Making music is an awesome experience that anyone can enjoy!
Private piano lessons focused on the beginner are offered in my home in Penfield, NY, located near Whalen Rd / Route 250 / Eastside YMCA.
UPDATE: all my lesson spots are full and I am no longer accepting new students.
Kim Pendelberry
In addition to piano lessons, I currently play piano in a praise band and play harp at events. I have taught preschool music and played piccolo in a marching band.
I studied music starting at a young age with instructors from private studios and the Eastman School of Music. My degrees are in Mechanical Engineering and Statistics. I worked many years in industry and currently am a Senior Manufacturing Engineer at Rochester Institute of Technology's Golisano Institute for Sustainability.
Value of Music
Learning to play a musical instrument is good for everyone. It stimulates and improves brain function. Music supports academic achievement especially in mathematics and science. Music also provides an outlet for personal expression and creativity. It provides a lifelong hobby for years of enjoyment and opportunities to collaborate with others.
Instruction Methods
I use traditional instruction with note reading, incorporating aspects of the Suzuki Method. I also include some work with scales, chords, and basic music theory. Knowing some basic chords, we can even play some simple pop music and learn to improvise.
I encourage personal creativity. Everyone has many songs in them. Composing your own songs on a regular basis is a great skill and much easier to cultivate when you are young.
Above all piano should be a fun and positive experience!
Starting Age for Lessons
Piano can be started as early as 4 or 5 years old for some children.
Adult students are welcome.
Younger students will need more support from parents or a caregiver.
Piano to Practice
You will need a piano or keyboard to practice on a regular basis.
If you don’t have a piano, often you can buy a used piano, sometimes they are even free. Keep in mind a real piano requires moving, tuning, and maintenance.
If a real piano is not available, an electric keyboard is good option.
Lesson Rates and Scheduling
30 minute lessons are $20, and 45 minute lessons are $27.
Shorter lessons are recommended for younger students.
Lessons are available after school and early evening.
